Planning Approval
February 2024
Our brief was simple yet effective by creating a series of enhanced spaces that allow for a better sense of arrival, framing views towards open countryside. A wellness suite and two guest suites. The existing dwelling is connected to a subservient proposed rear/side extension by a colonnade which encloses a new dining area. Looking forward to using Ash and Lacy’s Mechslip and load bearing frame.

Planning Permission
January 2024
Two beautifully designed 1,450sq.ft semi-detached properties were approved with Abode PD
Situated on a steeply-sloping, corner plot adjacent to Green Belt, the proposals cleverly utilise an ‘upside-down’ configuration, affording the main living spaces to open onto the higher-level lawned gardens.
Planning Application Submitted
January 2024
The planning application for a 6,500sq.ft replacement dwelling submitted on Friday.
Prepared by Eden Planning, centres around improving upon the fallback position, of various extensions and outbuildings to the existing dwelling that can be erected under PD rights.
The property boasts 5 bedrooms and generous open-plan living spaces (all affording views of the stunning surrounding landscape) as well as leisure/wellness areas and a triple garage.
The appearance of the property echoes the rural red brick and stone properties that punctuate the open landscape, flanked by a dark timber-clad contemporary interpretation of an agricultural barn.

Calderpeel changes hands following MBO
October 2023
A trio of directors has acquired the Altrincham-based architecture practice from founder Harry Calder.
Mark Massey, Ewen Miller, and Andy Lightfoot have taken control of Calderpeel Architects, whose projects include Salboy’s ongoing residential redevelopment of the former Castle Irwell student village in Salford.
Speaking on behalf of his co-owners, Ewen Miller, managing partner at Calderpeel Architects, said: “Harry established the business over thirty years ago and has worked hard with ourselves over the last twenty to develop the business to where it is today.
“We are a very tight-knit and connected team committed to continuing this development, supporting our fantastic past and existing clients whilst simultaneously building on our strong legacy.”
Miller added that while the business is under new ownership, Calder would continue to play a key role.
“Undoubtedly there will be a continued change in practice culture that we have been driving for the last few years, which looks to move the practice forward by nurturing our staff, enabling the next generation of designers, and working closely with like-minded professionals to create opportunities.
Luma Marketing founder Lucy Lomas has joined the company as a non-executive director to assist Calderpeel in “evolving our strategic vision for the future”, Miller added.
Innovative Energy Solutions: Beauty in Efficiency
September 2023
In the pursuit of luxury, energy efficiency is often overlooked, but it's a key aspect of sustainable architecture. Integrating smart technologies, renewable energy sources, and passive design principles can significantly reduce a building's energy consumption without sacrificing comfort or style.
Imagine a luxurious penthouse with solar panels discreetly integrated into its design or a mansion that relies on geothermal heating and cooling. These innovations not only reduce operating costs but also demonstrate a commitment to a sustainable future. An example of this kind of practice is our Lowood project, for more information please click the image above.
Greenwood
September 2023
The week begins with exciting news as we receive approval for our Superhome project, Greenwood. This replacement dwelling is nestled near picturesque woodlands, and we've meticulously designed the interior spaces to not only preserve but also elevate the breath-taking views. This creates a harmonious connection between the home and its natural surroundings. To find out more please click the image above.
Biophilic Design: Nature's Influence on Opulence
September 2023
One of the most intriguing trends in luxury architecture is integrating biophilic design—bringing nature indoors. Expansive windows that frame breath-taking views, lush interior gardens, and living walls create a harmonious connection between the built environment and the natural world. This approach not only enhances the well-being of occupants but also fosters an appreciation for the environment. An example of this design feature is our project at Preston Cottage, where floor to ceiling windows have been used to frame the vistas beyond the property, to find out more please click the image above.

Responsible Site Planning: Preserving the Landscape
September 2023
Luxury doesn't have to come at the expense of our precious landscapes. Responsible site planning is essential for preserving the natural beauty of an area. Luxury architectural practices can work harmoniously with the land, minimising disruption and conserving ecosystems. From cliffside villas that seem to emerge from the rock to forest retreats that blend seamlessly with the trees, these designs showcase the splendour of nature without exploitation. An example of capitalising on the natural beauty surrounding a property is the landscaping that exists on our project at Withington Hall, to find out more click the image above.

Residential Design
August 2023
Our distinctive approach to luxury residential architecture enables us to consistently challenge traditional norms.
Breaking the conventional designs to incorporate bold and unique concepts that result in homes that make a lasting impression. Striking facades, seamless integration of nature, and an emphasis on maximizing natural light. The bespoke approach to each project ensures that each design is tailored to the client's lifestyle, fostering close collaboration and creating homes that are a true reflection of the clients' vision and personality.
By incorporating unconventional creativity where appropriate, luxury takes on a new form, redefining the essence of architectural innovation within residential design. An example of where we have employed bespoke residential concepts into our design has been our Castle Irwell project, to find out more please click the image above.
